“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32 KJV
Forgiveness is not always easy.
Sometimes the deepest wounds come from people we trusted, loved, or expected more from. When hurt runs deep, it can be tempting to hold onto anger, resentment, or the desire for someone to feel the pain they caused.
But carrying unforgiveness can become a burden of its own.
Forgiveness does not mean pretending the hurt never happened. It does not mean what someone did was acceptable. And it does not always mean restoring the relationship exactly as it was.
Forgiveness means choosing not to let the offense continue controlling your heart.
Ephesians 4:32 reminds us that believers are called to forgive because we ourselves have been forgiven through Christ.
That can be difficult, especially when the other person has not apologized or changed.
But forgiveness is not only about them.
It is also about allowing God to free your heart from bitterness.
Sometimes forgiveness happens in a single moment. Other times, you may have to surrender the same hurt to God repeatedly.
Keep bringing it to Him.
God understands the pain, the disappointment, and the anger. Ask Him to help you release what you cannot carry anymore.
The Power of Forgiveness
Take a Moment to Reflect
Is there someone you are struggling to forgive?
What hurt are you still carrying?
Has resentment affected your peace?
What would it look like to surrender that pain to God today?
Prayer
Father, You know the hurt I have carried and the things that have been difficult for me to release. Help me forgive as You have forgiven me. Remove bitterness, anger, and resentment from my heart. Give me wisdom where boundaries are needed and grace where forgiveness is difficult. Help me walk forward in peace and freedom.
In Jesus' name, amen.
