Romans 6:23
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 6:23 (KJV):
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
This verse presents a contrast between the consequences of sin and the grace of God. "The wages of sin is death" means that sin earns spiritual separation from God, both in this life and eternally. This refers not just to physical death but also to the second death—eternal punishment apart from God (Revelation 20:14).
However, "the gift of God is eternal life" highlights that salvation is not something we earn but something freely given by God through Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, believers receive eternal life, not as payment for good works, but as a gracious gift. This verse summarizes the gospel: sin leads to death, but faith in Christ leads to everlasting life.
