Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.

BIBLE VERSE

Romans 6:23 (NIV) states: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

This verse contrasts the consequences of sin with the grace of God. The "wages of sin" refers to the spiritual death and separation from God that comes as a natural result of sin. Just as a worker earns wages for their labor, sin leads to death as its inevitable outcome. However, the second part of the verse offers hope—God’s gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. Unlike wages that are earned, salvation is a free and undeserved gift given to those who believe in Jesus. This verse highlights the choice between a life of sin leading to death and a life of faith in Christ leading to eternal life.
