Matthew 18:21–22 says:
"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'" (NIV)
These verses highlight the limitless nature of forgiveness. Peter thought forgiving seven times was generous, but Jesus revealed that true forgiveness goes far beyond keeping count. It reflects God’s own endless mercy toward us.
In daily life, this means releasing the need to measure or limit forgiveness. We are called to forgive continually, choosing grace over resentment. Forgiving doesn’t mean ignoring hurt, but it means refusing to let bitterness take root.. living in the freedom of God’s mercy and extending that same mercy to others.
